Summary: While
Commissioner Brunetti comes to bury his mother, a strange request is submitted by a missionary just returned from Africa: the policeman he could look to the actions of a cult that exists for some time in Venice? At first hesitant Brunetti. Perhaps Padre Antonin Scallon fears he only competition? On other hand, if the guru seeks to pluck his followers, it will look more closely. But soon, a more serious matter will monopolize the thoughts of Brunetti. In a cold and rainy morning, the body of a young girl was found in a canal. Strangely, no one reported her disappearance, nor of jewelry retrieved his clothes. Who is this child? Which caused his death? To protect what secrets has he been murdered? As Brunetti will not discover the truth about it, this little girl will haunt his nights ...
